Environmental Products & Services Ltd has received Highly Commended recognition in both Best Green Business and Best Innovative Business at the Greater Newry Business Awards 2026.
The double recognition is particularly meaningful for EPAS because innovation and environmental performance are not separate parts of what we do. They have shaped the development of our products, our manufacturing processes and the direction of the business for more than two decades.
And with these latest honours, EPAS and GreaseShield® have now received 28 awards and recognitions for innovation, engineering and environmental performance.
Innovation built around a real problem
EPAS was established to tackle one of the persistent challenges facing commercial kitchens and wastewater infrastructure: fats, oils and grease.
That challenge led to the development of GreaseShield®, our range of automatic grease removal equipment designed to separate and recover FOG from commercial kitchen wastewater at source.
But the technology has never stood still.
Today, approximately 6% of EPAS annual turnover is reinvested into research and development, supporting continued work in areas including intelligent monitoring, predictive maintenance, AI-assisted site surveys, sensing technology and other developments designed to make wastewater management increasingly efficient and data-driven. That commitment has helped take technology developed in Newry to customers around the world, with EPAS products now exported to 32 countries. Epas Ltd.
Environmental claims backed by evidence
Receiving Highly Commended recognition for Best Green Business is equally significant.
For us, sustainability has to go further than simply describing a product as environmentally friendly. It needs to be measurable and independently verified.
EPAS operates certified management systems including ISO 9001 for Quality Management, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management, ISO 45001 for Occupational Health & Safety and ISO 27001 for Information Security Management. These certifications were renewed as part of the company’s certification programme in 2025. Epas Ltd.
In 2026, EPAS also achieved ISO 14068-1 Carbon Neutrality, replacing our previous PAS 2060 certification and providing independent verification of our approach to measuring, reducing and addressing greenhouse gas emissions across the business. Epas Ltd.
Our environmental work extends directly to the products themselves.
EPAS has completed independently verified Environmental Product Declarations across the GreaseShield® and FilterShield™ ranges, providing transparent lifecycle environmental information rather than relying solely on sustainability claims. Epas Ltd.
These EPDs allow specifiers, consultants and customers to better understand the environmental impact associated with the products they choose and provide useful data for sustainability, carbon and procurement decisions.
GreaseShield® is also supported by Global GreenTag Platinum Health certification, adding further independent assessment to its environmental credentials. Epas Ltd.
Turning waste into a resource
The environmental benefits are also built into how GreaseShield® operates.
The technology is designed to recover fats, oils and grease before they travel further into drainage and wastewater infrastructure. Rather than allowing that material to become part of a wider waste stream, recovered FOG can potentially be used as a feedstock for biodiesel production.
According to EPAS award-submission data, a GreaseShield® installation can recover approximately 2,100 litres of FOG annually, capable of producing around 1,953 litres of biodiesel feedstock. Epas Ltd.
GreaseShield® also uses waste thermal energy already present within commercial kitchen wastewater rather than relying on additional electrical heating to separate grease, while operating without chemical additives. Epas Ltd.
It is a practical example of the connection between the two categories in which EPAS was recognised: innovation that delivers an environmental outcome.

These latest Greater Newry Business Awards recognitions bring the total number of awards and major industry honours received by EPAS and GreaseShield® to 28.
Those recognitions have come from organisations and events across the UK, Ireland, Europe, the United States and the Middle East, covering areas including environmental sustainability, product innovation, engineering and commercial kitchen technology.
They also build on EPAS being named Best Innovative Business at the Greater Newry Business Awards in 2025, making this year’s double Highly Commended recognition another chapter in a growing track record for a company that continues to design and manufacture its technology from Northern Ireland.
